Shaving Costs and Improving Care

Te Horo, Wellington

Marcella Bates had heard from many horse breeders and trainers that rubber matting was worth the investment.

Keeping four horses on her Te Horo property, she wanted something that could protect the animals from the hard concrete floor of her two existing areas.

“After much discussion, we decided to go with the 25mm matting,” she said, “It was the durable and hard-wearing option – which was what we needed.” Installation was also simple in the stable also. According to Marcella “it fit together like a jigsaw.”

“We simply don’t have to use shavings as much as we used to…”

Now a few months into its work and the matting is helping in more ways than one. Giving the horses a cushion has helped with ongoing peace of mind, and the clean up of the matting is easy too.

Cutting back on small ongoing costs has also helped. “We simply don’t have to use shavings as much as we used to,” said Marcella. The horse owner believes “we are now using approximately a third of what we once did.”

And the horses? Marcella was unequivocal in her response. “They simply love it,” she said. She’s equally forthright in her recommendation of the Kura matting. “We were recommended it, and I wouldn’t hesitate in passing that recommendation on.”
