Kura Mats Bring Many Benefits to Braeside Stables in Toowoomba

Toowoomba, Queensland

Project Overview: Braeside Stables, located in Toowoomba, recently undertook a significant upgrade to their facilities by installing Kura rubber mats in their tie-up area.

Background: John Thomas, overseeing operations at Braeside Stables, was concerned about the old concrete floor in the tie-up area, where horses are saddled early each morning. He noted, “I was getting concerned about the condition of the floor.” The primary issues were the floor’s slipperiness and unevenness, posing risks to both horses and handlers.

Solution: The decision to install Kura mats was influenced by several factors. John emphasized the product’s environmental sustainability, stating, “I had read about this rubber matting… it’s a recycled product that uses old rubber tires.” This aspect aligned with the growing emphasis on eco-friendly practices in the equestrian industry.

Installation Process: The installation of the Kura mats was quick and efficient. John expressed satisfaction with the process and the after-sales service, saying, “The installing of it was a very quick process… Numat has been back here and checked it numerous times to make sure that we were happy with it.”

Benefits:

1. Safety and Comfort: The rubber matting provided a more secure and comfortable surface for horses and handlers. “One of the advantages of the matting for me has been when I do treatment on horses, having to get down on my knees on the floor, I’ve found it much more comfortable than the concrete,” John remarked.

2. Noise Reduction: The mats contributed to a quieter environment, which is beneficial in a stable setting. John noted, “It’s much quieter here in the mornings when we bring horses out onto it.”

3. Ease of Cleaning: While different from cleaning concrete, the matting proved easy to maintain. “It’s just as easy to clean,” John confirmed.

4. Durability: Despite initial concerns about the uneven floor and potential lifting of the mats, John reported, “It’s been here for four months now and it’s had a fair test, and we haven’t had any trouble with it lifting or anything like that.”

Conclusion: The rubber surfacing project at Braeside Stables demonstrates a successful blend of practicality, safety, and environmental responsibility. The Kura mats not only improved the physical conditions of the tie-up area but also highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in equine facilities. John concludes, “I couldn’t be happier actually.”
